Propane Venting!

Storing A Five Pound LPG Tank!

We had been using those 1lb green disposable propane tanks for our Webber Q1200 BBQ as well as our Coleman Outdoor Stove!  These are handy but we wanted to carry a small propane tank to ensure we had an ample supply of propane.

Our Unity came with a low pressure quick connect to the chassis mounted propane tank!  But, we like the flexibility to move our BBQ and Stove and not to be tethered to the Unity by a hose!

We found a Marshall 5lb tank at our local Canadian Tire Store, these tanks come in a variety of shapes (short and squat or tall & thinner).  We purchased the taller version which fits perfectly in the starboard (passenger side) storage bay just to the aft of the entry door!  Other 5lb tanks of different dimensions would not fit in any of the lower Unity storage compartments!

The Unity storage/cargo bays are not vented and if you choose to carry extra LPG tanks it is highly recommended, and in some states/provinces the law, to have the tanks stored in a vented compartment.  As LPG/propane is heavier than air the vent should be as low as possible.

I used PVC pipe & fittings and a 1.25" round hole cut into the floor of the storage bay to mount the venting apparatus.  We used a hose screen/washer assembly to keep insects from entering the venting tube or compartment.

This was an easy installation.

360 Siphon

Freshness Abounds?

While browsing the Sprinter-Forum, we came across a posting touting the 360 Siphon  properties.  The 360 Siphon replaces the original equipment holding tank vent cap and is reported to eliminate all odors from the holding tanks, toilet and sinks; as well as eliminating the need for holding tank chemicals.

We have only used our Unity once, due to unforeseen circumstances, but did notice that when we flushed the toilet we could smell the holding tank chemical additive!

A quick call to Drain Master to order the Hi-Stack 360 (which requires no cutting of the venting pipe) and the part was delivered within 10 days!

The install was straight forward and there are a number of YouTube Videos which show how the 360 Siphon works and how to install a 360. Siphon.

When we next used the toilet there was no smell at all, an improvement on the faint chemical odor which originally there!
