LTV Kozad ~ Winter Rest 👍
After arriving home from our last trip (Vancouver Island) we winterized and parked our Unity for the winter until our planned 3 month trip across North America and over to Newfoundland.
Craig always checks out how our motorhome is doing when it is put to "bed". In December we noticed that the batteries were charging when they should not have been - when "plugged in" to shore power.
After experiencing "battery issues" on our last outing and were concerned that the 6V house batteries were due for replacement; and now with the continual charging we took the LTV in to be assessed.
What we found was the 30 amp control panel for the solar system was not charging as it should and even worse, was discharging our batteries every night.
We swapped out the defective controller for a new one, under the 5 year GoPower Warranty but unfortunately had to replace the house batteries.
As we were planning our 3 month trip (May to August 2017) and would be dry camping it was decided to install a second solar panel (150W) along with the original 90W LTV installed panel now provides us with a total of 250W of solar charging.
Our solar charging is amazingly efficient and even on overcast/cloudy days we are being fully charged during the day.
Go Power has a 5 year warranty on their products; they replaced our defective controller and the service was excellent.
