Finally South: Time in Blythe

Time Flies In Blythe, CA

Blythe First Days Spent Relaxing and Close!

22nd to 29th March, 2016 with good friends Mike & Penny

Our Drive to Blythe, CA

We spent a week in Blythe at the Rancho Ventana RV Resort we had a great time, met a lot of new people and enjoyed being introduced to some of Penny & Mike's other friends.   Blythe is a rural/agriculture town of approximately 13,000 people and is close to the Colorado River.

Penny & Mike were not home when we arrived!
So we had a chance to relax after our drive.

That would be Jan relaxing.

Rancho Ventana RV Resort sites the Blythe Golf Course, and is an easy hike to the lemon, orange and grapefruit orchards.  Also adjacent to the RV Resort is an old abandoned Air Field.

This airfield was built to train pilots during WWII and over it's life had a few different names and the history can be viewed along with old photos at:

Desolate and Falling Down

View from the old tower!

That is Jan & Penny down there!
The orchards are in the distance.

These orchards are harvested in November, yet you may still find a lot of citrus fruit still on these trees.  Of course the irrigation all comes from the Colorado River that does not have too much volume left by the time it reaches the Gulf of California.

This was the lemon orchard

Lemons on the tree, left by the pickers.

A couple of oranges we picked for later.
Sweet and juicy.

This is the RV pad that Penny arranged for our stay.
This, like their Park model, backs onto the golf course.

We were cleaning our LTV
When we went to put things back in this little fellow showed up.

This is a very large channel for irrigation of the surrounding region

Huge volume of water, and so clean looking.
All from the Colorado River

One of the planted fields, some variety of onion we think!

Our next couple of days were spent exploring a little further a field!
