Finally South: Visiting London Bridge

Our time In Blythe, CA

22 to 29th March, 2016 Leading Up To Easter Weekend

Colorado River Drive

Mike & Penny took us touring to see the Colorado River, which is a huge recreational area, most likely in most areas of the country.

Recreational Sections - Colorado River
Lots of RV an Park Model sites

Pirates Den Resort
A very nice place to stay

Mike & Penny checking out the place

This was a very impressive RV Resort, with nice riverside sites.  There is a long wait list to secure one of these pads which come with a gazebo on the beach.

We caught a glimpse of this 2016 plus LTV Murphy Bed
The plate says from Alaska, long way from home!

The bridge was dismantled, each individual piece numbered and then shipped.

The bridge, in pieces of course, was loaded onto a brand new transport ship which had been scheduled to sail west across the Atlantic.

Arrangements were made for the bridge cargo which was taken through the Panama Canal to California.  From there it was trucked to Lake Havasu and assembled over three years.  The bridge was built over land and a channel was dredged afterwards, creating the popular boating and kayaking area of Lake Havasu.

We went to Lake Havasu to see the "London Bridge"

The Cast Light Standards Are Very Nice!

If you look closely you can still see the numbers on the stones

Old Stone Engineering!

This is the view from our lunch table

Headed Back To Blythe

The drive to Lake Havasu was a nice easy 140km drive, less than two hours with interesting stops along the way.  We were took the route to the east of the Colorado River up to London Bridge, then on our way home we crossed the Colorado River over the Parker Dam back into California.

Nice easy drive up to and back from London Bridge, AZ

This is a huge pumping station providing water to California
Of course from the mighty Colorado River

We crossed the Parker Dam
Restricted Vehicle Access
No RV Traffic - about 8' width restrictions

Lots of these Turkey Vultures Flying
First one we saw on the ground?

Maybe should read
No Jack Asses On Road
But that would have an entirely different meaning!

Sign to slow does not apply to burrows!

Cutie!
We saw a lot of these fellows in a three mile stretch.
